Chocolate Date Spread

Who needs high-sugar processed Nutella when you can make your own delicious version? This Chocolate Date Spread is not only delicious and rich but your children will love it! I came up with this healthy substitute during my first pregnancy when the chocolate cravings hit hard.  A great healthier version for when your kids are demanding chocolate but you want to keep their sugar levels balanced and make sure those moods are happy!

PREP: 5 mins

MAKES: 1 cup

INGREDIENTS:

1/4 cup (25g) carob powder

1/4 cup (25g) cacao powder

1/4 cup (125ml) maple syrup

3 large (90g) Medjool dates, pitted

1/4 cup (50g) hulled tahini

1 tbsp (20ml) light olive oil

2-3 tbsp filtered water or more if needed

EQUIPMENT: High-speed blender

METHOD:

  1. Place all ingredients in a medium-sized bowl, and using a blender, blend until a smooth consistency is reached. Alternatively, place into a small food processor, and process until smooth and creamy.

If it is too thick add an additional tablespoon of water and keep adding until desired consistency is reached.

Serving and storing leftovers: Serve immediately, store in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two weeks or freeze for up to 4 months.

Tip: Replace the tahini with other school-friendly seeds such as pumpkin and sunflower seeds.
