4-Ingredient Hot Chocolate

Introducing a delightful twist on a winter classic: hot chocolate made with wholefood ingredients. Unlike traditional hot chocolate recipes that rely on processed ingredients and refined sugars, this recipe uses wholefood antioxidant-rich ingredients such as cacao and carob. To ensure it's sweet enough for your little ones, add a tsp of coconut sugar or a pinch of stevia - for a no-nasties sugar-free choc drink. It tastes delish and is the perfect way to satisfy everyone's choc cravings

4-Ingredient Hot Chocolate

EQUIPMENT: Small pot

INGREDIENTS:

4 cups (1 L) coconut milk or milk of choice

1 tbsp (15g) cacao powder

1 tbsp (15g) carob powder (optional)

1 tbsp (15g) coconut sugar or a pinch of stevia

 

METHOD:

  1. Place all ingredients into a small pot and stir until combined.

  2. Simmer over medium heat.

  3. Allow to cool and serve in mugs.

  4. Top with grated chocolate (optional).   

STORING LEFTOVERS:
Store covered in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze in popsicle moulds for up to 4 months. 

 

TIPS:

  • Simple swaps:

    Swap coconut milk for cow’s, oat, almond or soy milk. 

    Swap carob for additional cacao.

  • To boost:

    Add 1 tsp of kid-friendly chocolate protein powder.

  • For fussy eaters:

    Top with shaved chocolate and coconut cream.
