Brain-Boosting Choc Banana Smoothie

Try this delicious brain-boosting banana and chocolate smoothie. It combines the natural goodness of bananas and the rich flavour of cacao, plus dates, avo, chia seeds, flaxseeds and spinach to create a powerful boost of superfoods in just one serve. This rich and creamy chocolate smoothie is specifically designed to support brain health and function by incorporating ingredients that are known to provide various brain-boosting benefits. It’s perfect for the whole family and can be frozen into moulds for a fun frosty snack.

Brain Boosting Smoothie

EQUIPMENT: High-speed food processor

INGREDIENTS:

1 medium (200g) ripe banana, frozen  

1/4 ripe avocado (35g), peeled and pitted 

1/8th cup spinach leaves (15g), washed and chopped

1 tsp (6g) chia seeds  

1 tsp (6g) flaxseeds 

1.5 cups (375ml) coconut milk

1/4 cup (75ml) water 

1 tbsp (8g) cacao powder  

2 Medjool dates (40g), pitted 

 

METHOD:

  1. Place all ingredients into a high-speed food processor or blender and blend until smooth and creamy.  

  2. Serve in small cups.   

STORING LEFTOVERS:
Store covered in the fridge for up to 2 days or freeze in popsicle moulds for up to 4 months. 

 

TIPS:

  • Simple swaps:

    Swap coconut milk for cow’s, oat, almond or soy milk. 

    Swap spinach for kale.

    Swap cacao for carob powder.

  • For fussy eaters:

    Freeze smoothie into ice cube trays or popsicle moulds and sweeten with a tsp of manuka honey, stevia or maple syrup if required.
